Who runs this site
Maternity Calculator is built and run by a freelance developer. When we were having a baby, working out maternity pay was much harder than it should have been: the employer's scheme, Statutory Maternity Pay, when the pay changes and which deadlines matter. I built the tools I wished I'd had, and made them free for everyone.
What the calculators do
The calculators work out maternity pay week by week and month by month for NHS staff, teachers, the Civil Service, the police, the Armed Forces and any other employer, along with the key dates you need to know. There are also planning tools for shared parental leave, part-time pay and childcare costs.
How the calculations are checked
Every calculation follows the published rules: GOV.UK for Statutory Maternity Pay and the key dates, and each employer's own published maternity scheme. Each calculator links to the scheme it is based on. Rates are updated every April when the government changes them, and the calculations are covered by automated tests.
The results are guidance only. Your contract or your employer's policy may differ, so check with your HR team before making decisions.

How the site is paid for
The calculators are free. The site is paid for by adverts and affiliate links, which are always labelled "Ad". If you buy something through one of these links we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Adverts never change your results.
Nothing you enter into the calculators is saved. See the privacy policy for details.
